Our night bakers work through the night, long after the store has closed.


Bakery Manager

Matt is our Bakery Controller who manages our whole 24/6 production process.

He started with us in January 2020 bringing with him over 15 years of retail management experience including running multiple bakeries.

Matt successfully oversaw the relocation of our main baking production up to our state-of-the-art Peasmarsh bakery in March 2020.


We are extremely proud of the team here at The Rye Bakery. They work around the clock (literally!) to produce real bread and cakes using skill, expertise, knowledge and passion. Read more about them here.


Night Manager

Mark has been in the bakery industry for almost all his career, running his own bakery at one stage, and with us for almost 10 years. He is one of our Master Bakers and is also responsible for our very busy night production operation. Mark and his team produce thousands of breads and rolls every night at our Peasmarsh bakery.


Master Baker Nights

Rob has been a baker for over 30 years and served his apprenticeship in Kent. He has been with us at The Rye Bakery for over 10 years. He is our main Night Bread Baker and is one of our Master Bakers. Rob is very passionate about his quality and this shows, his hand molding skills are exceptional. 


Master Baker Nights

Lee has been a baker for his entire career and with us for over 10 years. He is a great all-round Master Baker who is an expert in both confectionary products and bread. Lee enjoys scrolling through social media looking at industry trends and implementing them here at The Rye Bakery.   


Semi-skilled Baker Nights

Charlotte has been with us since 2021 having come from a catering background. She started off as our wholesale packing assistant but a baker’s position arose and she hasn’t looked back. Charlotte is currently learning under the tutelage of our Master Bakers Mark, Rob and Lee.  


Baker Nights

Darren initially started on days with us over 10 years ago as a packing assistant then moved to nights. He successfully undertook an apprenticeship with us and currently helps make all our morning goods lines, including our famous jam doughnuts.

Ben started with us over 10 years ago and he successfully undertook an apprenticeship with us. Ben currently makes all our morning goods lines, including our famous jam doughnuts.


Confectionary Manager

Adrian has been with us since 2007 and is our Confectionary manager at our production unit in Rye. He has been in the industry for over 40 years, including running his own bakery and shops. He is a Master Baker who specializes in confectionary, but is a fantastic all-rounder. Adrian has a real passion for traditional methods and uses some of the same recipes that he learnt almost 40 years ago.


Confectionary Baker

Simon started with us in 2001 coming from a Catering environment. After initially staring on nights Simon moved to days to become one of our confectionary bakers helping us produce thousands of cakes and pastries every week. He is our current poster boy for our mince pies. 


Confectionary Baker

Julie is our award winning master cake maker, having joined us in 2001, and has over 40 years experience. Julie hand makes all our famous Gateaux’s for our coffee shops and is always looking to try new flavours with our muffins. 


Confectionary Packer

Val has been with us for over 15years and plays a key role at our confectionary production unit ensuring that each product passes her strict quality checks. She is responsible for ensuring that all products are packed correctly and go to the correct customer. 


Bakery Team Leader Days

Lyndsey joined us in 2021 coming with over 10 years of management experience. With no previous experience of bakeries Lyndsey was quick to pick it up. Lyndsey is our main point of contact for customers and is always a friendly voice at the end of the phone. 


Master Baker Days

Steve started baking in 1979 and has never looked back. After working for a couple of different bakeries Steve joined us on nights as a Master Baker over 15 years ago. Steve has been on days for over 5 years as our main bread baker, he is also our resident wheatsheaf expert. If you visit our Peasmarsh store you will regularly see Steve using our new equipment.


Bakery Assistant

Charlie has been with us for over 8 years. She helps pack all our goods for sale and is very strict with her quality control. Charlie has been trained to assist in making rolls and has become a bit of a specialist in the production of our hand molded rolls range.


Bakery Assistant

Gladys has been a bakery assistant at Peasmarsh since 1996, she has been a welcoming friendly face to our customers ever since. 


Bakery Assistant

Eid joined us over 5 years ago as a Bakery Assistant. She ensures that all products are packed correctly and are of the quality she expects.
