At Chikuluti Primary School in Malawi, hunger once kept many children from learning.

Not long ago, hunger forced Standard 4 pupil Lloyd Samuel to drop out of Chikuluti Primary School. To survive, he took on piece work, herding animals in exchange for food or a little money.

Today, thanks to the school feeding programme funded through our collaboration with Starfish Malawi supported every time you purchase a hot drink at The Rye Bakery, Lloyd is back in class, learning and dreaming of becoming a doctor.

“I couldn’t focus on my studies when I was hungry all the time. It was hard to sit in class and learn when my stomach was growling. The food at school is delicious and helping me so much.
